Why did Telefónica move?
Written after the close on
Telefónica rose very sharply, likely on data-centre backing. Over the last five trading days Telefónica was roughly unchanged, in line with a slightly higher market but against a slightly weaker communications sector. The sharp last-session rise likely reflects the company joining Iberdrola and Indra in defending data-centre development against a proposed decree on such centres, a stand taken last week. Data centres are large buildings full of servers that store and process digital information, and rules on them matter to a telecoms operator because they host traffic and cloud services.
