Why did ASML Holding move?

Written after the close on

ASML jumped as AI demand returned to lithography. Over the past week ASML rose sharply, outpacing both a slightly weaker broad market and a mildly firmer technology sector, with the strongest gains coming in the latest session. The likely driver is renewed optimism around AI-related demand for its chipmaking machines — lithography, the light-based process that prints circuit patterns onto silicon wafers — helped by continued share buybacks and analyst support. A partly offsetting worry is the CEO's warning that tighter U.S. export limits on China could push customers toward rival technologies, and that High-NA adoption is stretching out to 2030. Watch the mid-October earnings report, where AI-linked orders converting into revenue will be the key test.
