Rights issue

A rights issue offers existing shareholders the right to buy new shares, usually in proportion to their holdings.

The company raises new equity from those who subscribe. Subscription rights may be tradable during a limited period. The number of shares rises, which can reduce the ownership percentage of holders who do not participate.
