Dilution

Dilution means that existing shares represent a smaller portion of a company after more shares are issued.

A holder of 10 shares out of 100 owns 10 percent. If another 100 shares are issued, those same 10 shares represent 5 percent. The issue may also bring money into the company, so ownership dilution alone does not describe the whole value change.
