Why did Ørsted move?
Written after the close on
Ørsted edged higher over the last five trading days, bucking a slightly weaker Copenhagen market, with the sharpest gain coming in the final session. That late jump likely reflects renewed optimism about offshore wind demand after Ørsted's chief executive publicly urged Germany to re-tender its offshore wind projects — a call that, if heeded, would widen the pool of future projects the company could bid for. Offshore wind is simply electricity generated by turbines standing in the sea, and Ørsted is one of the world's biggest developers of such farms, so any sign of more government auctions tends to lift its shares. The broader market's own sharp rise in that same session probably added a tailwind, though Ørsted's move outpaced it.
