Share buyback
A share buyback is a company's purchase of its own shares.
The company uses cash to buy shares from the market or through an offer. Shares held by the company are normally excluded from the outstanding count. Per-share earnings may rise because profits are divided among fewer shares, even if total profit is unchanged.
