Why did Pfizer stock rise on 7 October?

Written after the close on

Pfizer +1.82%

Pfizer rose sharply in the last session, likely helped by positive trial data on its eczema drug tilrekimig. Over the last five trading days Pfizer fell clearly, moving against a rising market while its healthcare sector was roughly flat, so the week was weaker than the final day suggests. The likely drag was a cautious tone around the stock's valuation and its very high dividend payout relative to earnings, even though cash flow covers it, alongside flat revenue and soft upcoming earnings expectations. Partly offsetting that, Pfizer reported positive mid-stage results for tilrekimig in atopic dermatitis (a skin condition) and said it plans to move the drug into larger late-stage trials, which likely lifted the shares in the last session. Watch the early-November earnings report, where the company is expected to show lower profit and slightly lower revenue than a year earlier.
