Why did BW Offshore stock rise on 9 October?

Written after the close on

BW Offshore +3.65%

BW Offshore rose very sharply as DNV backed its blue ammonia FPSO concept. Over the last five trading days BW Offshore rose sharply while Oslo Børs was roughly unchanged, so the week's gain was mostly its own; the likely driver is last week's news that DNV, a classification body that certifies ships and offshore units as safe and seaworthy, gave its backing to a floating production vessel design that BW Offshore developed with engineering firm McDermott to produce blue ammonia, a low-carbon fuel made from natural gas with the CO2 captured. That endorsement matters because it moves an early-stage concept closer to being buildable and orderable, and it fits the market's current appetite for energy-transition projects. The next scheduled checkpoint is the company's results in late February, so until then the shares will likely trade on sector sentiment and any further progress on that concept.
