Why did AbbVie stock rise on 7 October?

Written after the close on

AbbVie +1.75%

AbbVie climbed sharply as lymphoma-trial success lifted it. Over the last five trading days AbbVie rose sharply, outpacing a clearly higher S&P 500 while the healthcare sector was roughly flat, helped by a late-stage win for its epcoritamab combination with R-CHOP in newly diagnosed diffuse large B-cell lymphoma — a blood cancer — which cut the risk of progression or death by 51%, and by analyst price-target increases. The company also nudged its 2026 adjusted earnings guidance lower to absorb $216 million of acquired IPR&D and milestones expense, meaning spending on bought-in drug programs, a modest drag that did not stop the advance. Next to watch is the third-quarter report due in late October, where analysts look for strong growth from Skyrizi and Rinvoq.
