Short selling
Short selling usually means selling borrowed shares with the obligation to return them later.
The seller later buys shares to close the loan. A lower repurchase price creates a gain before fees and other costs. Rising prices can create losses larger than the original sale proceeds because a share price has no fixed upper limit.
