P/B ratio

The P/B ratio compares market value with the company's reported equity.

A market value of 200 and reported equity of 100 give a P/B of 2. Book values follow accounting rules and may differ from current market values. The ratio is less informative when much of a business's value is not recorded on its balance sheet.
