Beta

Beta estimates how strongly an asset's returns have moved with a benchmark's returns.

A beta near 1 means similar sensitivity to the benchmark in the measured sample. A beta near 2 means roughly twice that sensitivity in a simple statistical model. The estimate depends on the benchmark and period and does not describe every risk in the asset.
